VENUE

1971-Design Space, Flag Island

A site-specific installation on the terrace of 1971 – Design Space, composed of fragmented wooden wall pieces and sculptural seating elements.

The work draws on the maritime history of the Gulf, using carved dhow forms and coral references to evoke movement, memory, and the circulation of materials across coastal landscapes. Positioned against the port-facing wall, the installation responds directly to its surroundings, where the rhythms of wind, water, and passing vessels become part of the work’s experience.

Extending from the wall piece, sculptural stools function as both seating and continuation of the installation, encouraging moments of pause and engagement within the space. Composed of multiple wooden fragments, the work creates a sense of flow across the surface, activated throughout the day by shifting light and shadow.
